인사이드아웃 원서 읽기1 (~Chapter2)

원서 읽기를 시작했다.

무슨 책을 읽을까 하다... 우선 짧고 재밌고 친숙한 것부터 시작하자는 마음에 '디즈니'를 픽했다. (말모말모~)

감정이 주인공인 영화답게 표현도 다채롭지 않을까하여 선택한 '인사이드 아웃'

 

책을 읽기 전에 먼저! 제목의 뜻부터 알아보자면,

 

라일리의 머릿속(안)이 주인공이기 때문에 안팎을 뒤집어... 뭐 그런 느낌적인 느낌~

매일 챕터를 깰 때마다 몰랐던 또는 헷갈렸던 단어나, 표현은 티스토리에 기록할 계획이다.

지금 공부하고 있는 책은 단어와 뜻이 잘 정리되어 있어 공부하기 매우 간편하기 때문에!

 

 

그럼 Let's begin!

Joy stepped up to the console, a device the Emotions used to control Riley's reactions, and watched in awe, as Riley's parents looked down at their beautiful daughter for the first time.

 

awe n. 경외감 v. 경외감을 갖게 하다

the feeling of respect and amazement

But thirty-three seconds after Riley was born, someone else materialized at the console.

Someone or something suddenly appears, after they have been invisible or in another place.

"I'm Sadness." the blue newcomer said to Joy, introducing herself somberly.

serious or sad

She kept her sharp eye out for anything that looked worthy of an "Ew."

(*FYI, SHE is 까칠이!!!)

keep an eye out for v. 지켜보다, 경계하다

you watch someone or something carefully.

 

5.

Anger took the reins.

 

rein n. 통솔권, 통제력; 고삐

the ability to limit or control something

(며칠 전에 공부한 reign 이란 단어와 발음, 뜻이 비슷하여 찾아봤다.)

Anger worked hard to even the score, so he was always ready to release a scowl, scream, or growl at any unfair situation.

 

even the score v. 복수하다, 응징하다

you harm or punish someone who has harmed or cheated you in the past

growl n. 으르렁거리는 소리

 

7.

Riley's Emotions started to ge restless.

 

restless a. (지루하거나 따분해서) 가만히 못 있는

bored, impatient, or dissatisfied and you want to do something else.

Joy said cheerfully as she looked at the run-down Victorian.

 

run-down a. 황폐한

A run-down building or area is in very poor condition.

 

9.

"No, no, no." said Fear, taking in the dismal view.

 

take in v. 눈여겨보다

you notice it with your eyes.

 

dismal a. 음울한, 울적하게 하는

sad and depressing, especially in appearance

 

10.

It had a sloped ceiling.

 

slope v. 경사지다

 

11.

Riley dashed back downstairs.

 

dash v. (급히) 서둘러가다

run or go quickly and suddenly

 

12.

The move to the new house was not off to a very good start.

 

be off to a good start v. 출발이 좋다

You are successful in the early stage of doing something.

"I've got a great idea!" she said, clicking an idea bulb into the console.

 

bulb n. 전구

She grabbed her hockey stick and dropped a crumpled-up piece of paper on the floor.

She dribbled the paper toward the fireplace and whacked it in.

Family island shone in the distance, powered up and running.

trying to come up with a way to turn the situation around.

Joy yanked a memory sphere off the wall and played it.

휴, 쪼그만 책 6장 정도 되는 분량에 몰랐던 단어가 이렇게나 있었다니...

부지런히 공부해야겠다는 다짐을 또 다시 한 날.

인사이드아웃 1일차 시작이 좋다!
